Education (Amendment) Bill 2024
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Families of children with special educational needs would be allowed to apply for a school place up to two years before the child is due to start. Schools could set an earlier application window for these cases, giving them more time to plan places and supports. The aim is to give families more certainty that a place will be available and to help schools prepare the right resources in time.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Education Act 1998 and certain regulations made under that Act for the purpose of allowing a certain timeframe to be specified in respect of students with special educational needs when an application is made for admission to a school and to provide for related matters.
