Land (Zoning Value Sharing) Bill 2024
Public bill · Government · Presented
Sets up a system to share some of the extra land value created when land is rezoned for development, especially housing. Owners of affected land would have to provide value assessments, local authorities would keep a land values register, and a 25% payment could be required when planning permission is granted; unpaid amounts would stay attached to the land. The money would go to local infrastructure and services to help bring more suitable land into use and support new homes, with some development types excluded and false information punishable.
