Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024

Public bill · Government · Presented

The measure keeps approved housing bodies under regulation by making “deemed” bodies stay on the register without having to reapply, so the biggest housing bodies do not lose oversight at the start of 2025. It also broadens the rules on what counts as housing need, bringing in state-funded homes and cost-rental homes, and updates how cost-rental homes can be allocated, including clearer rules on household composition, approved alternative selection methods, and letting homes to people already living there.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Housing (Regulation of Approved Housing Bodies) Act 2019 to provide for the continued regulation of persons deemed to be approved housing bodies under that Act; to amend the Affordable Housing Act 2021 to provide for different mechanisms for the allocation of, and the selection of tenants for, cost rental dwellings; and to provide for related matters.
