Maternity Protection, Employment Equality and Preservation of Certain Records Bill 2024
Public bill · Government · Presented
It would let an employee who develops a serious physical or mental health condition around the time of childbirth delay maternity leave for up to 52 weeks, with medical proof and notice to the employer. It would also create a formal 26-week maternity leave arrangement for members of the Oireachtas, so elected representatives can step away after a birth without losing that status. The wider bill also proposes changes to equality, welfare, and record-preservation laws, including keeping certain institutional records in the public interest.
