Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Bill 2024
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Bill 2024 would bring room-renting agreements in a landlord’s own home into the main residential tenancies system and give those occupants clearer rights and duties. It would require landlords to respect their privacy and peaceful use of the room, stop them being punished for bringing complaints or disputes to the Residential Tenancies Board or other authorities, and set out what the renter must do, such as paying rent on time and behaving responsibly. It also creates a notification system for these agreements, gives notice periods for ending them, applies rent pressure zone rules to them, and provides a model licence to make agreements clearer and fairer.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 and to provide for related matters.
