Social Welfare Bill 2024

Public bill · Government · Presented

Raises a range of social welfare payments from early 2025, including pensions, jobseeker supports, maternity, paternity, adoptive and parent’s benefits, the carer’s support grant, working family payment, and domiciliary care allowance. It also gives a once-off €280 payment for newborn or adopted children, increases the lower PRSI threshold for employers so minimum-wage jobs stay on the lower rate, and lets self-employed people apply for Carer’s Benefit. It matters because it puts Budget 2024 welfare changes into law and boosts support for families, carers, and people out of work.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Social Welfare Acts; and to provide for related matters.
