Planning and Development (Stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems) Bill 2024
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Adds large, fixed battery storage projects to the kinds of developments that may need a full environmental impact assessment before they can go ahead. In practical terms, it would bring certain stationary battery energy storage installations with a total output above 1 megawatt into a stricter planning and environmental review process. It also makes a related change to the Planning and Development Act 2000 and says the new rules would begin three months after the Act is passed, or earlier if the Minister decides.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 to include in the classes of development requiring an environmental impact assessment report certain installations of stationary battery energy storage systems, and to provide for related matters.
