National Minimum Wage (Adequate Wages for Living) Bill 2024

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

A few targeted changes would be made to the rules on the national minimum wage so they better reflect the idea of a wage that is fair, sustainable and enough to live on. The body that advises the Minister on minimum wage rates would also have to build in a way of checking whether the rate is adequate, and it would have to report on whether the existing hourly rate meets the cost of living for both individuals and families. The purpose is to bring Irish law into line with an EU directive on adequate minimum wages. If passed, it would come into force 60 days after enactment.

Formal long title

Bill entitled An Act to amend the National Minimum Wage Act 2000 to provide for implementation of Directive (EU) 2022/2041 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 October 2022 on adequate minimum wages in the European Union.
