Prohibition of Advertising or Importuning Sex for Rent Bill 2025
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Prohibition of Advertising or Importuning Sex for Rent Bill 2025 would make it an offence to offer or advertise housing in return for sexual services, or to ask a tenant or prospective tenant to provide sexual services instead of paying full rent. It also covers ads or messages that suggest sex could be accepted as rent or as a way to reduce rent, including when those ads are published or shared by others. The aim is to stop exploitative housing arrangements that put people under pressure to trade sex for somewhere to live. Anyone convicted could face a fine, with higher fines for more serious prosecutions.
Formal long title
Bill entitled An Act to prohibit certain acts in relation to soliciting or importuning sexual services in consideration of a reduced rent or in lieu of rent for the letting of a tenancy or other residential accommodation, and to provide for related matters.
