Broadcasting (All Ireland Service) (Amendment) Bill 2025

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Aengus Ó Snodaigh’s proposal would push Ireland’s national broadcasters to make every reasonable effort to stop excluding viewers in Northern Ireland, including by reducing geo-blocking, opening up competitions and access to programmes, and avoiding maps or coverage that erase the Six Counties. It would also require Coimisiún na Meán to report within six months on how to remove barriers to all-Ireland access, and require the Media Minister to work with the British Government and international bodies to help create an all-Ireland market for TV rights and resolve licensing disputes.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Broadcasting Act 2009 to recognise the duty of national public service broadcasters and Coimisiún na Meán to proactively make efforts to ensure equal access to national public broadcasting services across the whole community of the island of Ireland.
