Protection of Tenants' Deposits Bill 2025

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The measure would start long-delayed rules that already exist in the 2015 residential tenancies law, requiring tenants’ deposits to be protected through the Residential Tenancies Board. It also asks the Minister to set up a deposit protection scheme, so tenants are less likely to lose their deposit unfairly and landlords have a clearer system to follow. It would have to take effect within 90 days of being signed into law.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Act 2015 so that the provisions in that Act for tenant deposits to be sent to the Residential Tenancies Board are commenced within 90 days of the passing of this Act.
