Road Traffic and Roads (Blood Bikes Exemption) (Amendment) Bill 2025

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would let blood bike volunteers who transport blood, samples, medicines and other urgent medical items avoid road tolls, just like ambulances and other emergency vehicles. It would also give them the same traffic-rule exemptions that ambulances already have, including access to bus lanes and relief from similar restrictions while carrying out their duties. It matters because these volunteers often provide fast, free, potentially life-saving deliveries to healthcare services, and the measure would remove costs and delays that can slow them down.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Roads Act 1993 and the Road Traffic Act 1994 to exempt blood bike operators from road tolls and from restrictions from which ambulances are granted exemptions, including access to bus lanes, in the performance of their duties, and to provide for related matters.
