No. 54 of 2025

Education (Affordable School Uniforms) Bill 2025

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

It would require the Minister for Education to set rules on school uniform policies that keep costs down for families. Schools would have to involve parents and students, make uniform requirements clear, let families buy items from more than one retailer, keep branded items to a minimum, support second-hand uniforms, and avoid changing uniform rules too often. Schools would also be expected to take a sensible approach when a child cannot comply because of financial hardship, and the Minister would have to review how well the rules are working.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to make provision whereby the Minister for Education shall make regulations governing the implementation of an affordable school uniform policy in schools; and for this purpose, to amend the Education Act 1998.
