Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2025

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would make it easier for the Electricity Supply Board to carry out works affecting the levels of the Shannon lakes, especially Lough Derg, Lough Ree and Lough Allen. It would remove some older limits on what the board can do and update a 1934 law so that extra works, including dredging new channels and deepening existing ones, can be covered. In plain terms, it is aimed at giving more flexibility to manage water levels and related river works on the Shannon system. That matters because these changes can affect flooding, navigation, and how water is controlled in the area.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to reduce restrictions on the power of the Electricity Supply Board to carry out works concerning the levels on the Shannon Lakes (Lough Derg, Lough Ree and Lough Allen), to amend the Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1934 and to provide for related matters.
