Health (Abolition of Three Day Wait Rule) (Amendment) Bill 2026

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The bill would remove the mandatory three-day waiting period before a person can access an early pregnancy termination in Ireland. Its explanatory memorandum says the change would amend the existing 2018 law by deleting the waiting-rule provision and related references, so people could proceed without that pause. It matters because it would make access faster and reduce delay for those seeking care.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018 to abolish the mandatory three day wait rule for access to a termination of pregnancy.
