National Minimum Wage (Equal Pay for Apprentices and Young Workers) Bill 2026

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The bill would change the national minimum wage rules so apprentices and workers under 20 must be paid the full minimum wage, instead of a reduced rate or being left out. It removes the current legal exceptions for apprentices and young workers, ending age-based pay differences in the minimum wage system. It matters because it would give these workers the same basic pay protection as everyone else.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the National Minimum Wage Act 2000 to provide for apprentices and young workers to be paid at least the National Minimum Wage.
