Prohibition of Sulky-Racing Bill 2026
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The bill would make it illegal to organise or take part in sulky racing on public roads without lawful permission, and it also covers related animal-racing activity that could cause unnecessary suffering. It gives local authorities the powers needed to enforce the ban and sets out penalties for breaking the law, including fines and possible prison terms, as well as fixed penalty notices. It matters because it aims to reduce serious risks to road users, pedestrians, children, horses, and motorists, and to improve animal welfare.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to prohibit sulky-racing where no lawful permission has been granted.
