Domestic Violence Judgments Register Bill 2026
Public bill · Government · Presented
Creates a public online register of court judgments for certain serious domestic violence convictions, so people can check whether someone has such a history. A court would decide whether a judgment goes on the register, and the victim’s consent would be needed; the convicted person could later ask for removal after a set period, depending on whether they went to prison. It also changes related laws so those publication rules do not block the register, and it is expected to cost nothing extra because it will use the Courts Service’s existing online system.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Domestic Violence Act 2018 to provide for the setting up of a Domestic Violence Judgments Register in which judgments containing certain information in relation to the conviction of persons of certain offences may, on the order of a court, be contained; to specify the circumstances in which a judgment may be included in the Register; and to provide for related matters.
