Forestry (Critical Infrastructure) (Amendment) Bill 2026

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would change forestry law so that water mains, gas pipes and power lines crossing or bordering forest land have legally required safety clearances. It would set minimum corridor widths in law, including a bigger protected area for 10kV and 38kV power lines, rather than relying only on forestry guidance. The aim is to make it easier to safely maintain vital services and reduce the risk of damage or disruption where infrastructure runs through forests.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Forestry Act 2014 to provide for the effective management of critical infrastructure corridors and forestry management, and to provide for related matters.
