Health (Amendment) Bill 2026

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The measure would require the Health Minister to review the Long Term Illness scheme within a year of it becoming law, and then every three years after that. Each review would check how well the scheme is working, and a report would have to be published and sent to the Oireachtas within six months of the review starting. It matters because the scheme gives free medicines and related supplies to people with long-term illnesses or disabilities, but it has not been updated for decades. Regular reviews could help keep it in line with modern medical understanding and make sure more people with lasting conditions are not left out.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Health Act 1970 and to provide for related matters.
