Postal and Telecommunications Services (Amendment) Bill 2026
Public bill · Government · Presented
Provides a legal basis for giving An Post an extra €75 million over five years, from 2026 to 2030, to help keep the nationwide post office network going. The money would be paid at €15 million a year from the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport’s existing funds, replacing the previous support scheme that ended in 2025. It matters because it helps protect postal services in towns and rural areas across the country.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the making available to An Post of additional monies for the purposes of maintaining a network of post offices; and for that purpose to amend the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act 1983.
