Anti-Shrinkflation Bill 2026

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Anti-Shrinkflation Bill 2026 would require retailers to clearly label products when the quantity has been reduced in a way that raises the unit price, so shoppers can spot hidden price rises more easily. The label would have to stay up for at least 60 days, and the rules would mainly apply to larger shops and retail chains, with some exemptions where the packaging already makes the price increase clear or where the increase is under 3%. Breaching the rules could lead to a fine of up to €15,000, and the Minister would have to review how the law is working within 18 months.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide price transparency for consumers by preventing hidden price increases by way of quantity reduction, allowing consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.
