Electricity Regulation (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2026

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Electricity Regulation (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2026 would allow the Commission for Regulation of Utilities to prioritise applications to connect to or use Ireland’s electricity grid, instead of dealing with them strictly in the order received. It responds to growing pressure on limited grid capacity from housing, industry, renewable energy and other strategic projects, and would require the Minister to publish at least yearly reports to the Oireachtas on national capacity and connection demand.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Electricity Regulation Act 1999 and, for that purpose, to make further and better provision for the prioritisation of applications under section 34 for connection to, or use of, the transmission or distribution system for electricity, and to provide for related matters.
