CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CIVIL SERVANTS AND ARTICLE 10 OF THE TREATY.

Michael Doyle Mr. M. DOYLE (for Pádraig Baxter) Farmers Party

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of civil servants who are protected by Article 10 of the Treaty, 1921, under Votes Nos. 31, 32, 33, 38, 39, and 63 for the year 1926-27 and showing (a) the total amount of salary paid to those civil servants under each Vote, and (b) the total amount of bonus paid to those civil servants under each Vote.

The number of serving officers under the Votes referred to who have rights under Article 10 of the Treaty and their cost calculated on the basis of existing scales of pay are as follows:—

I might say that the salary and bonus figures given are only approximate. They are calculated on the mean of the scale of each appropriate grade. It would be necessary to consult the Departments to get the precise salaries and bonus charged in each case. These figures are roughly accurate, but not accurate to the pound.

Would the Minister give the total?
