Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Assistance Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that in certain districts the Poor Law authorities reduce the regulation grants of home assistance payable to destitute persons and families by all or portion of the relief received by such persons and families from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or other charitable associations; whether these reductions are made with the approval and sanction of his Department, and further, whether he will take steps to ensure that this practice be discontinued.

So far as I am aware the extent of home assistance allowed depends on consideration given to all the circumstances of applicants. The regulations do not confer rights to specific amounts. My Department has no functions in the matter save that the Auditor might question unfounded or extravagant payments.
