asked the Minister for Agriculture whether in view of the necessity of providing lime at a reasonable price, for agricultural purposes, he will take steps to provide grants to county councils proportionate to the sums raised by these bodies for the above purpose.

I recognise the need for supplies of lime for agricultural purposes at reasonable prices, but I am not satisfied that the provision of grants would be the most effective method of securing this object. The matter is receiving careful consideration.
