asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townlands of Bally-glass, Clooneara, Ragheralish, Icelaun and Creenane, Kilmovee, County Mayo, where there are over 20 tenants whose poor law valuations are under £5 each; and if he will now state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire the lands known as Brooklawn farm, Record No. U4688, formerly held by the Misses Jordan, which is now let in grazing by Mr. John Gallagher, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon.

Thomas Derrig Minister for Lands (Mr. Derrig) Fianna Fáil

The Land Commission are aware of the congestion existing in the neighbourhood to which the Deputy refers and have already considered the question of acquiring the lands of Mr. John Gallagher, but having regard to the circumstances of the case they do not propose to take further action for the present. Their information is that the present owner resides on the lands and works them satisfactorily, subject to certain lettings made by the previous owner which must run for a stipulated period.
