Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Press Censorship.

asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures if he is aware that the censorship has been and is being misused by preventing the publication of refutations of criticism of the farming community, in Dublin papers and publications, for not, as alleged, providing food for the nation, and if he will say why he has refused to allow publication in the current issue of The Leader of a refutation of that paper's insistent criticism of the farming community.

James Ryan Dr. Ryan (for the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures) Fianna Fáil

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative; to the second part, that the editor of the paper concerned was informed when he submitted the letter (of which the Deputy himself is the author) that, subject to the deletion of one passage, he was at liberty to publish it in next week's issue.

Will the Minister say what is the passage referred to?

Comment on this

I will. I do not intend to read the passage, because it is rather lengthy.

Comment on this

It would only be forcing me to put down a question.

Comment on this

The passage is calculated to be a justification of farmers to feed wheat to pigs.

Comment on this

Would the Minister read the passage and see if the House will take that interpretation of it?

Comment on this

I have read it.

Comment on this

I ask the Minister to read it again.
