asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the scarcity of copper for electrical purposes; and whether, in view of such scarcity of copper, he will arrange for an inspection of copper deposits at Bonmahon, County Waterford, to see whether the industry there could be revived.

The reopening of the Bonmahon copper mines at this stage would not have any effect on the supply of copper wire or cables for electrical purposes. Accordingly no purpose would be served by arranging for an inspection now.
