Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenant-Purchase Scheme.
asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state why he does not accept the representations of Dublin Corporation's Housing Committee that there is a need for a tenant-purchase scheme, and that there are overcrowded families, whom the corporation cannot accommodate, who will avail of such a scheme, as sufficient evidence of the need for it, and what further evidence he now requires.
Comment on this
It is normal administrative procedure to expect a local authority submitting proposals in regard to a tenant-purchase scheme to formulate them in detail and to furnish definite evidence of a demand for such a scheme. I would suggest to the Deputy and, through him, to the corporation, that it will be a material consideration to see whether any such scheme can be so limited as to prevent interference with the programme which the corporation have at present in hands for rehousing persons displaced by their operations under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts and also for the overcrowded classes eligible for tenancies on the principle of greatest need.
