asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the importance and marked success of the work done by probation officers, he is prepared to establish these officers and to grant them pension rights and such other privileges as attach to permanent Civil Service appointments.

The issue raised in respect of these officers forms part of a larger problem which is under consideration. A decision in the case of the probation officers cannot be taken in advance of a decision on the general problem.
