asked the Taoiseach if he will state (1) the number of tons of wheat purchased abroad and the average cost per ton during the last financial year; (2) the average cost per ton of Irish wheat.

Comment on this

(1) Imports of wheat, including wheat for seed, in the year ended 31st March, 1950, amounted to 150,143 tons, at an average price (c.i.f.) of £26 18s. 8d. per ton; (2) on the basis of a price of 62/6 per barrel to the grower, the average cost to the miller of dried native wheat in the same period was approximately £29 per ton.
