Seán F. Lemass Minister for Industry and Commerce (Mr. Lemass) Fianna Fáil

Under the provisions of Section 15 of the Transport Act, 1950, the board of Córas Iompair Éireann are charged with the duty of conducting the undertaking so as to secure that the revenue shall not be less than sufficient to meet the expenditure properly chargeable to revenue. The provisions of the Act, generally, contemplate that the board will be given a free hand in the discharge of this duty.

I presume that, in referring to an undertaking given in 1950, the Deputy has in mind the provisions of Section 38 of the Transport Act, 1950, relating to redundancy. Any employee to whom this section applies would be entitled to compensation in the event of the termination of his employment.
