asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider setting up an agricultural council composed of practical farmers and vested with powers and responsibility to put the industry on a firm basis.

The answer is in the negative. There are at present in existence four consultative councils which advise on specific sectors of the agricultural industry. Also, I have under consideration proposals for reconstituting the Agricultural Production Consultative Council, whose main function would be to advise on agricultural policy generally.
