Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Old I.R.A. Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state, in respect of County Limerick, (a) the names and addresses of persons in receipt of Old I.R.A. pensions under the Military Service Pensions Acts and the amount of the pension awarded in each case, and (b) the names and addresses of persons to whom service medals only have been awarded.

As the reply to the first part of the question is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to have it circulated with the Official Report. It would be contrary to established departmental practice to supply the addresses of these persons. Consequently, I regret that such information cannot be supplied.

Departmental records of the persons to whom service medals have been issued are compiled in alphabetical order and not on the basis of the unit or area in which the applicant claimed to have served. In view of the amount of official time which would be involved in extracting the information sought in the second part of the question and as the addresses could not be given, I do not propose to supply the list. The number of such medals, without bar, which has been issued to persons resident in County Limerick is approximately 1,900.

Following is the statement:—
