asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is now in a position to announce his decision regarding the proposal to erect a bridge connecting Valentia Island with the mainland.

I have at present nothing to add to my replies to the Deputy's recent questions on this subject.

When does the Minister contemplate coming to a decision in the matter?

A number of Ministers and Departments must, first of all, be consulted and then it will be a matter for the Government to decide as to whether the bridge will be built or otherwise. I hope it will not be as long as Youghal bridge.

I hope the bridge will not crack the moment the Minister goes over it.
