asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will reimpose price control on bread and butter in order to prevent exploitation of the consumer.

It was intended when control of prices of butter and bread was terminated that in future the retail prices would be determined by the laws of competition. As the Deputy will now be aware, control has been reimposed on bread prices, but this was done only when it appeared that effective competition was not likely to develop.
