asked the Minister for Lands if the Forestry Branch have any plans on hand for the planting of a forest in Cartoon at the back of Owenduff and Tonlegee Mountains in Achill Sound, County Mayo, which is an ideal area for afforestation, and where thousands of acres are owned by the Land Commission.

My Department was offered the townland of Cartoon, comprising about 1,900 acres, for afforestation some time ago but on inspection the land was found to be wholly unsuitable for forestry development because of severe exposure and poor soil quality.
