Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Facilities in Garda Stations.

Joseph McLoughlin Mr. McLaughlin

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that groups of Gardaí, numbering up to ten men and over, are housed in stations where there is neither water, sewerage nor wash basins and, if so, if he will take steps. to remedy the matter, as these men have sometimes to go a distance of one and a half miles for water.

Oscar Traynor Minister for Justice (Mr. Traynor) Fianna Fáil

There are three rural stations in Border areas where, for security reasons, the station strengths have been temporarily augmented to ten or more and where there is no running water. At two of these stations water is available within 40 yards and at the third where water has to be carried a distance of 300 yards it is supplied under contract.
