asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the grave shortage of houses in Listowel; and if there is any scheme in his Department to meet the urgent housing needs of this town.

The assessment of housing needs in Listowel is a matter for the urban district council. I am informed that nine applications were received by the council in reply to a public advertisement in December last, inviting applications for housing accommodation. There is no proposal from the council in my Department for the provision of further houses.
