asked the Minister for Local Government what are the difficulties which prevent county council road workers from being paid their wages weekly; and if he will take immediate steps to have this practice implemented in County Mayo.

I understand that the main difficulties are the reduced supervision of works and the extra cost that would be involved in a change-over to weekly payments. As regards the latter part of the question, I have no power to take the steps suggested.
