Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Restriction on Television Advertising.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the annoyance caused to television viewers by over-frequent repetition of advertising interludes, he will consider amending the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960, so as to restrict within reasonable limits the number of advertisements shown.

Michael Hilliard Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Hilliard) Fianna Fáil

I already have power, under Section 20 (3) of the Broadcasting Authority Act, to control the amount of television advertising, and it was with my approval that the Authority fixed the present limits of an average of six minutes of advertising time per hour subject to a maximum of seven and a half minutes in any one hour. These limits are subject to review from time to time.
