asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he proposes to alter the regulation concerning licensed hauliers in the Twenty-Six Counties regarding the unladen weight of their vehicles and the extent of the area in which they may operate.

As I informed the House in reply to a question on 28th June, 1966, an examination of transport using road and rail is taking place in my Department. In the course of that examination, all aspects of existing road transport legislation will be considered, including unladen weights and areas of operation of licensed hauliers. I do not propose, at present, to seek wider statutory powers to regulate these matters.
