asked the Minister for Education when the draft scheme submitted by Kildare County Council for university scholarships will be sanctioned.

It has been decided to discontinue the operation of schemes of post-primary scholarships and to provide that all moneys heretofore devoted to both post-primary and university scholarships be devoted in future to student grants for higher education. This will require legislation which I intend to introduce in the current session. The preliminary arrangements have necessarily taken a considerable time.

The draft scheme submitted by Kildare County Council will, therefore, be considered in due course in the light of the amended legislation.
