asked the Minister for Defence if he will arrange to have the non-commissioned officers and men of the Defence Forces paid their salaries by cheque.

There has been no demand for the arrangement which the Deputy requests, which would suggest that the present system of cash payment is generally acceptable and satisfactory. In any event, it could not be said, without detailed examination, whether a system of general payment by cheque would be practicable.
