asked the Minister for Local Government whether any consideration has been given to the introduction of a differential rating system which could reduce the heavy expenditure now having to be met by pensioners and other categories of retired persons with fixed incomes.

As previously indicated by me, arrangements for dealing with the rates liability of necessitous persons generally are being reviewed in the light of the recommendations made on this subject in the Third Report of the Inter-Departmental Committee.
