Following is the information requested:—

Borrowing by semi-State Companies

Notes: (a) The borrowing took place during the year 1965 and the payment of interest only represents part of the year.

(b) On the formation of Ostlanna Iompair Éireann Teo. in 1962 the assets taken over from CIE, (hotel property) were made subject to a loan account from CIE. Of the increased borrowing £800,000 is due to a fluctuating overdraft on which the amount of interest payable varies.

The only such body for which I have a responsibility is Radio Telefís Éireann which was established on 1st June, 1960. Property valued at £249,000 was transferred to the Authority under section 32 of the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960 and repayable advances totalling £1,851,000 have been made under section 23 of the same Act. The total amount borrowed by the Authority is, therefore, £2,100,000. In 1967-68, the latest period for which accounts are available, the cost of servicing this debt was £113,213.

In my reply to a Parliamentary question from the Deputy on 15th May, 1968, I gave particulars of the debt outstanding and the cost of servicing it in the case of each of the State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of my Department, as at 31st March, or 31st December, 1956, and at the latest date then available.

This information was up-dated in my replies to further questions by the Deputy on the 4th February, 1969, and the 15th April, 1969, and no more recent information has since become available.

Increase in borrowing (excluding issued share capital) by the State-sponsored bodies under aegis of the Minister for Finance.

(a) All borrowing is from the Exchequer and the interest terms have not yet been fixed by the Minister for Finance.

(i) The figures given above are based on published accounts; the accounting years vary and for this reason it is not possible to give figures for periods ending on 31st March.
