asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider introducing a scheme whereby elected members of local authorities will receive some payment towards the cost of telephone charges and all postage in dealing with local authority matters.

The introduction of such a scheme would require amending legislation. I am having the matter examined in the course of the present review of the structure and organisation of local government.
