Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Safety Films.
asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider establishing a section in his Department to show the many excellent films, which are in his Department on road safety, etc., to schools and colleges throughout the country.
Comment on this
There is a section in my Department, part of whose duty it is to arrange for the production, acquisition and distribution of road safety films. Facilities exist for the showing of road safety films in some schools, particularly secondary schools, and my Department's films are readily available to such schools on request, either directly from the Department or through the National Film Institute of Ireland. Moreover, the road safety officers of the Safety First Association of Ireland give film shows to school children during the course of their regular visits to schools. Ways and means to increase the showing of films in schools are being explored. I might add that children are also reached through the showing of such films on television and that arrangements exist, with the co-operation of cinema managements and film distributors, for the showing of films suitable for children in cinemas throughout the country.
