Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Transport Subsidy.

asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht if he will make a transport subsidy available, on the same basis as that being paid in the Gweedore area, County Donegal, to help pay the high transport cost in relation to 17 employees of a firm in County Donegal (name supplied).

Michael F. Kitt Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Gaeltacht (Mr. Kitt) Fianna Fáil

Baineann socruithe ar leith leis an lárionad tionsclaíochta i nGaoth Dobhair agus tuigim ó Ghaeltarra Éireann nach bhfuil ar intinn acu socruithe den saghas céanna a dhéanamh i gcás tionscail aonair in áit eile.

Do I take it the Minister is now differentiating between the people of Gweedore and those in Donegal when he considers that people living in Gweedore are entitled to a subvention but the people in Dungloe are not?

Comment on this

Ní hea, ach is lárionad tionscalaíochta atá i nGnaoth Dóbhair ag freastail ar cheantar fairsing agus tá cúpla monarchan móra ann ina bhfuil scaireanna ag Gaeltarra ach san áit eile níl ach monarcha bheag. Mar sin féin, muna bhfuil siad in ann oibrithe a fháil cuirfidh mé achainí an Teachta faoi bhráid Ghaeltarra arís.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there are 17 people in Dungloe at the moment who cannot avail of work because it is felt by the management that subsidising the transport is uneconomic? Would the Minister consider making a 50 per cent grant towards the cost of transport? Maybe the Parliamentary Secretary would give his reply in English because about the only people who speak Irish nowadays are in the Department of the Gaeltacht?

Dúirt mé go gcuirfinn achainí an Teachta faoi bhráid Ghaeltarra Éireann arís.
